Allard Hall Directional System Redesign
This project was a team effort to create a cohesive and intuitive directional system for MacEwan's Allard hall, home of the Fine Arts & Communications Faculty. The building opened in 2017 and has 5 floors (4 of which are open to students) and a parkade.
As frequent visitors to this building, we were well acquainted with the pain points of navigating Allard Hall. My own biggest complaint is that each floor looks near identical, which seems counter-intuitive for such an open-concept building.
The basis for our directional system was that each floor would be assigned a colour, and a large concrete installation of a specific shape & colour which students would come to associate with a particular floor.
My focus during this project was to create floor maps, map out circulation flow, and create mockups for the floor installations.
